The founding partners of Viriato Capital bring more than 20 years of local and international experience in management and investments and are backed by a diversified and experienced group of investors

As founding partners of Viriato Capital, Miguel Costa Freire and Pablo Alvarez Guerra are committed to acquire and manage an SME in Portugal or Spain. Bringing more than 20 years of experience in management, investment banking and strategy consulting, they worked in prestigious multinationals, such as J.P. Morgan, McKinsey, Bain & Company and Nestlé. They developed most of their careers in Iberia, and internationally, in the UK, the US and Latin America

Alongside the partners, Viriato Capital is backed up by a diversified group of over 20 investors, both local and international, who will add more experience to Viriato Capital. They have carried out more than 150 transactions in SMEs, deploying more than €2,100 millions in capital

Pablo Álvarez Guerra

Managing Partner

  • Pablo has over 10 years of experience in management together with strategy and operations consulting
  • He previously worked at McKinsey and Nestlé. As an Associate Partner of McKinsey in the London office, his work was focused in growth and operations optimization, mainly for private equity portfolio companies
  • Participated in 10+ transactions in private equity with a combined value of over €5,000 million. Pablo also led 14 growth transformations for private equity owned companies which generated more than €8,000 million euros of value to shareholders
  • Pablo holds a double Master's degree in Industrial and Mechanical Engineering from Universidad Politecnica de Valencia, and from the Arts et Métiers Paris Tech (ENSAM). Pablo is an MBA graduate from INSEAD
  • In his free time, Pablo enjoys tasting new foods (he is a certified food taster), and also investing time studying philosophy as a long-standing personal interest

Miguel Costa Freire

Managing Partner

  • Miguel has over 10 years of experience in investment banking, strategy consulting and management
  • He previously worked at Bain & Company and Miura Private Equity and also as part of the investment banking and private equity teams of J.P. Morgan and UBS in London. He also held management positions within tech companies
  • Participated in 20+ transactions in private equity, M&A and capital markets with a combined value of €10,000 million. In addition, Miguel held direct responsibility for several sales channels and managed multi-million-euro operations and teams, as country manager and head of corporate development for companies in the tech space
  • Miguel holds a double Master's degree in Finance and International Management and an Undergraduate degree in Business Administration, from Nova SBE and Copenhagen Business School. Miguel is an MBA graduate from INSEAD
  • In his free time, Miguel likes to practice and watch sports, including football, rugby and ski. He also likes to read business and espionage books, and to try new restaurants and wines
